Have not blogged for a while but in the meantime I have been working on a stonewall at Grasmere with/for Darrren Woolcock and also did a small repair to a wall in Patterdale which was damaged when a tree fell on it during the recent spate of storms.The weather has been far from work friendly… Read More

Completed a chimmney stack today at Coniston in squared green lakeland slate.It has taken two of us the best part of four days to do(aprox 4mtrs in the whole stack) Darren was cutting and dressing the stone which i was walling and calling out.It looks very well but extremely time consuming and painstaking work.

Walling at Brampton again today.On the home strait now and hopefully come Wednesday evening it’ll be all but finished.

Walling at Brampton. random rubble sandstone.did three and a half metres plus but with good attendance ie walling only.the dry weather has made the use of lime based mortar much better.pointing the job as we go along and a run down the joint with the finger or tooling object followed by the soft brush seems… Read More

Walling at Brampton,Carlisle again but fairer weather thankfully.The jury is still out on this job as to how pleasing the final job will look.The photo shows the kind of stone and style and also some of the problems of the lime mortar bleeding because of wet weather.Thankfully this is now showing signs of settling down… Read More

Walling reclaimed random sandstone rubble today at Brampton,Carlisle.The weather was not good and far from ideal when you are using mortar,in this case a lime based mortar 6.1.1 grit sand lime white cement.It probably has excellent properties but is horrible to use and not at all easy to get a nice finish on the joints.Like… Read More
